Ben Dilla

Senior SIMA® Consultant

Ben Dilla is an Associate Member of SIMA® International. His practice focuses on coaching, assessment, talent management, and validation research.

Ben's practice centers on individual assessment and coaching, team building, and organization development. His leadership development framework views leadership as service to others, the institution and its higher purpose. He strongly believes that leaders, teams, and organizations serve best when they understand and leverage their innate strengths.

While trained and certified in numerous psychometric approaches, SIMA® remains Ben's preferred tool for talent management and development, working as a consultant with business and not-for-profit organizations. With his background in the academic and research community, Ben also helps to gather and disseminate critical information on the validity of SIMA® as an assessment technique.

During the first part of his career, Ben served for 20 years as a behavioral scientist in the United States Air Force, including roles as the human resources director at the Air Force Personnel Center, an associate professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology (Dayton, Ohio) and the Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs), and director of operations, quality, and institutional research, at the Air Force Academy.

Upon leaving the military, Ben worked for eight years as a senior consultant for Personnel Decisions International (PDI), a global human resources consulting firm, providing executive assessment and coaching, 360-degree feedback, leadership training, and organizational development services.

Ben is the author or coauthor of eighteen articles in professional journals and conference proceedings, including The Journal of Management and The Journal of Vocational Behavior. He authored the instructor's manual for Leadership: Learning the Lessons of Experience, a top-selling leadership text by Richard Hughes, Robert Ginnett, and Gordon Curphy.

He is an adjunct instructor in the M.B.A. programs at LeTourneau University (Longview, Texas) and Dallas Baptist University.

Education:
• United States Air Force Academy, B.S. (summa cum laude) in behavioral sciences and leadership
• Purdue University, M.S. in industrial and organizational psychology
• Purdue University, Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology

I believe my life purpose is learning and helping others learn more about who we are, what we are designed to do in life and career, and how to be better leaders. Over the years I've experienced and utilized many assessment methods, and I've found nothing that gives deeper insight into people than the System for Identifying Motivated Abilities (SIMA®). I've used it personally for career planning for 25 years. Over the past eight years, I've led SIMA® workshops to help volunteers find just the right job for supporting growth of our church. And since 2007, I've been using SIMA® as the centerpiece of my practice in executive assessment, coaching, talent management, and succession planning, in both for-profit businesses and not-for profit organizations.
