Steve Darter is an Associate Member of SIMA® International and president of People Management SMD LLC. He specializes in executive search, selection, succession, executive development, team coaching, and issues related to "job fit" and the effective utilization of employee strengths. Steve focuses his consulting on helping organizations improve results through a better understanding and positioning of people, and helping individuals make good decisions about their work. Prior to joining SIMA® International, Steve was on the staff and faculty at Saint Joseph College, where he ran the Career Planning and Placement Office and taught the career counseling sequence in the graduate counseling program. He also worked in insurance sales and retailing, where he participated in opening and managing two businesses. Steve joined SII (formerly People Management) in 1976. In 1984, he was appointed Senior Vice President and Head of Executive Search And Selection. From 1990-2005, he served as President of People Management Northeast. He has been an adjunct faculty member at the Barney School of Business of the University of Hartford, teaching an advanced practicum course on Managing to Strengths to MBA students. Steve has been in high demand as a guest speaker and facilitator at numerous seminars. He appears regularly on radio and television talk shows, and has authored several published articles, as well as the book, Managing Yourself, Managing Others. He served as Vice Chairman of the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce's Technology Council, and has been profiled as one of North America's top executive recruiters in the book, The New Career Makers, based on survey results of CEOs, senior HR executives and other business leaders. He has also been listed in various Who's Who directories.
